Two Finnish software companies quoted the same project last spring.
One quoted €90,000.
The other? €240,000.
Same scope. Same tech stack. Same eight-month deadline.
Both claimed themselves top software development companies in Finland. Both promised experienced developers.
The buyer picked the cheaper one.
Fourteen months later, the expensive company had to step in and finish it.
Sounds like bad luck?
Not really.
Oxford researchers studied 1,471 IT projects and found that one in six went over budget by more than 200%.
So, what’s wrong?
The problem is often not development. It is finding the right development partner.
Because every company says almost the same thing. Senior talent. Technical expertise. Proven experience.
But which ones can actually deliver? This guide helps you figure that out.
Here are 20 of the best software development companies in Finland to help you build a shortlist you can trust and avoid expensive mistakes later.
Key Takeaways
- Finland has over 14,000 software and consultancy companies, but only a small number suit complex projects.
- Senior software developers in Finland typically cost €80 to €160 per hour.
- The cheapest quote can become the most expensive project.
- Finland is strong in AI, cloud, industrial data, and embedded software.
- Senior specialists remain difficult to find and secure.
- Onshore, nearshore, and offshore models offer different cost and capacity benefits.
- Check out a vendor’s financial health before signing.
- Be sure to ask who will actually work on your project.
- Begin with a small discovery phase or an early milestone.
- Put code ownership, security, and exit terms in writing.
- Choose a partner based on your project needs, not company size.
What Most Buyers Get Wrong About Finnish Software Firms
Most buyers rank Finnish vendors by size. Bigger company, safer bet. It feels sensible.
It is also how you end up paying enterprise rates for three juniors, assigned to you because the good people were busy on a bank rollout.
Finland has 14,792 registered software and consultancy companies turning over 13.1 billion euros a year, according to Statistics Finland. Fewer than fifty matter for a serious build.
The rest are two-person shops, subcontractors, or firms who will quietly pass your project on. And the good ones are often booked, because Finnish tech still needs 140,000 more people this decade.
So the list below is sorted by what each firm is actually good at, not by headcount. One is a 13,000-person listed group. Another has 28 people. Both belong here.
Finnish Software Development Companies Compared at a Glance
Here is the whole list on one screen.
Scan the “Delivery Model” column first. It is the factor most likely to affect what you pay.
Then check the “Best For” column. Almost every firm here does something particularly well and is average at something else.
Editorial Disclosure
This is a well-researched listicle by the Brain Station 23 team. And yes, we included ourselves on this list, so please keep that in mind as you read.
Also note that nobody paid for a spot or a rank, and no company saw the draft before we published it.
If another firm on this list is a better fit for your build, hire them. Just choose wisely. A bad development partner can cost you time, money, and even your project.

Top 20 Software Development Firms in Finland, Reviewed
Now the detail. Each entry tells you what the firm is genuinely good at, what it is certified for, and where the risk is.
1. Brain Station 23
Brain Station 23 sells capacity rather than proximity. Its European front door is an office in Germany. And their delivery runs from offshore engineering centers. Their working model is built around dropping vetted engineers into a client’s existing sprints.
Roughly 900 in-house engineers are behind that.
Their industry coverage is broad. Fintech and banking, telecom, pharma and life sciences, retail, education, healthcare and logistics. Nordic experience is real rather than theoretical. Its case studies include a cloud self-service customer portal for a Norwegian mobility technology group.

What makes the model work for European buyers is the governance wrapped around it. ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and CMMI Level 3, plus vendor credentials most Finnish firms simply do not carry.
It has ranked as the world’s top nopCommerce solution partner for six consecutive years, is an Odoo Silver Partner and a Moodle Certified Integration Partner.
If your bottleneck is headcount rather than time zone, its IT staff augmentation route puts engineers into your sprints inside two weeks.

2. Tieto
If you recognize one name on this page it is probably Tieto. And you probably know it by the old spelling. The company reverted to Tieto Corporation on 30 March 2026 after its annual general meeting approved the switch. Same ticker, same business, shorter name.
Scale is the whole pitch. Around 13,000 people across more than twenty countries. The team is split into four units covering banking, care, industry and technology consulting. Reference work includes enterprise search platforms for global manufacturing groups and learning infrastructure for a national health service.
Nobody buys Tieto for speed. You buy it because your regulator wants to see a supplier that will still be trading in fifteen years. And because it has been inside Nordic public institutions for decades.

3. Solita
Ask who in Finland does industrial data properly and this name comes up first. It grew out of Tampere in 1996, sold a majority stake to a private equity buyer in 2018, and still counts hundreds of employee shareholders.
Certification coverage is unusually deep for a consultancy of this size. Running to ISO 9001, 14001, 27001, 20000-1 and 13485, alongside Azure Expert MSP and AWS Premier Tier status. Data is where they are strongest. Straightforward application development is not really the point of them.

4. Reaktor
Twenty-six years as a staff-owned firm, and then in June 2026 it rang the bell. Reaktor Group listed on the main market of Nasdaq Helsinki, with employees able to buy in at a discount. Anyone still describing Reaktor as the employee-owned outlier is working from an old brief.
Their work has always leaned design-heavy. Defense and security are their growth area now. Offices in New York, Tokyo, Amsterdam and Lisbon give it reach most Finnish firms cannot match.

Best For: Ambitious consumer or public products where the interface is the product
5. Futurice
If your problem is that everyone in your building is talking about generative AI and nobody can ship any of it, start here. Futurice has published harder AI outcome numbers than almost anyone in Finland.
The culture is the other half of the story. Open financials, repeated appearances at the top of Great Place to Work rankings in Finland and Europe, and a fund that pays staff to contribute to open source.
It has also spun out six sister companies rather than acquiring them, one of which appears further down this list.
Core Services:- Digital strategy
- AI workflows and automation
- Product design
- Platform modernisation
- Managed services
- Generative AI
- Cloud
- Mobile
- Data engineering
- Agile product development

6. Gofore
Nobody has bought more Finnish consultancies in the last decade. Leadin in 2017, Solinor in 2018, Qentinel in 2020, Huld in 2025, esentri in 2026. The result is roughly 1,800 people across 24 cities and a Nasdaq Helsinki listing where about half the staff hold shares.
Public sector is the core franchise. It has won full project management framework tenders with national agencies. It has held ISO 27001 since December 2020.
One thing to raise on the first call. Gofore opened change negotiations in April 2025 covering several hundred employees, citing demand that has been soft since 2023. Ask directly about team stability.
Core Services:- Digitalization consulting

Best For: Government and defense programs that need security-minded delivery
7. Siili Solutions
Here is a credential almost nobody else on this list can claim. In October 2025 Siili became Finland’s first known listed company to earn ISO/IEC 42001, the management system standard for artificial intelligence, audited by Bureau Veritas.
That matters more than it sounds. If you are putting AI into a regulated product and your compliance team is nervous, that certificate does a lot of the talking before you even open the technical conversation.
Underneath it there’s a fairly ordinary Finnish consultancy of around 900 people. They’re listed in Helsinki, with subsidiaries covering automotive software, design and integrations. Sector work runs across private healthcare, insurance, aviation and media. The AI governance angle is the reason to call them first rather than fifth.
Core Services:- Data and AI
- Legacy modernization
- Digital platforms and eCommerce
- Custom development
- Software quality
- Managed services
- Generative AI
- Data platforms
- Cloud
- Automotive software
- Integration architecture

Certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 42001
Best For: AI in regulated environments where somebody will audit how the model was governed
8. Digia
Digia is who you call when the software that actually runs your business needs replacing rather than reimagining. ERP, integrations, and the automation layer sitting between systems nobody wants to touch.
Around 1,600 people, listed on Nasdaq Helsinki, and the largest of the Finnish mid-caps by some distance. The business traces back to 1990 and spun its product arm out into a separate listed company in 2016, which left the consultancy pointed squarely at business systems.
It is strongest in energy, retail, logistics, financial services and the public sector. ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and EcoVadis Gold, the last of which puts it in the top 5% globally on sustainability. Not the firm for beautiful product design. Very much the firm for the systems your operations depend on.
Core Services:- ERP and business systems
- Integrations
- Data and automation
- Application development
- Cloud
- Cybersecurity
- ERP platforms
- Robotic process automation
- Integration middleware
- AI services
- E-commerce

Certifications: ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 27001, EcoVadis Gold
Best For: Replacing the unglamorous systems that quietly run your operations
9. Eficode
Different entity entirely. Eficode does not build your product. It builds the machinery your developers use to build your product.
Twelve Atlassian Partner of the Year awards sit behind that, plus partner-of-the-year recognition from both GitHub and GitLab. It works across ten countries, which is unusual reach for its size.
Core Services:- DevOps transformation
- Platform engineering
- Atlassian and GitHub and GitLab solutions

Best For: Engineering organizations whose real problem is their own delivery pipeline
10. Vincit
Vincit is a consumer and regulated-product house. Mobile apps that have to carry real transaction volume at one end, medical device software at the other, with SAP and e-commerce work in between.
Founded in Tampere in 2007 and listed on Nasdaq First North, with offices in Finland, Sweden, Poland and California. Be straight about the current picture though. It ended 2025 with 512 people, down from 640 a year earlier, after a sharp contraction. Ask what that did to the delivery teams.
What survived is a certification stack nobody else here matches. ISO 9001, ISO 13485, ISO 27001 and ISO/IEC 42001. For regulated device software in particular, that combination is genuinely hard to replicate.
Core Services:- Custom software development
- E-commerce and commercial platforms
- SAP
- Data and AI
- Service design
- Software maintenance
- Mobile
- Embedded
- SAP
- E-commerce platforms
- Medical device software

Best For: Regulated device software and consumer apps that have to move real transaction volume
11. Nitor
Three hundred people, almost no international ambition, and a claim that takes a second to sink in. Fourteen years, in an industry where clients eventually complain about everyone.
The model explains how. Senior engineers only. No pyramid of juniors underneath, and a client base of serious Finnish institutions in grocery retail, banking, telecom, gaming and broadcasting.
Core Services:- Digital engineering
- Technology strategy
- Service design
- Data and AI
- Continuous services
- Cloud-native engineering
- Accessibility
- Data platforms
- High-traffic consumer systems

Industries Served: Retail and grocery, banking and finance, telecom, gaming, media, public sector
Certifications: ISO/IEC 27001:2022
Best For: Buyers who want senior engineers only and will pay for the difference
12. twoday Finland
twoday is the public sector data specialist on this list. The defense and government footprint is inherited from its former life as the consulting arm of a Nordic software group. And it still shapes what the firm is good at.
Fastest grower here by a wide margin. The main Finnish entity added 160 people in 2025 to reach 611 and grew strongly on both revenue and margin, in a year when most Finnish consultancies were running change negotiations.
A private equity house has owned the group since 2022. And there are roughly 2,300 people across Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Lithuania. Several sister entities also operate in Finland. So the practical headcount is larger than the headline suggests.
Core Services:- Data and AI
- Software engineering
- Cloud platforms and security
- Business applications
- Process automation
- Data platforms
- Cloud modernisation
- Machine learning
- Microsoft business applications
Founded: 2005, rebranded to twoday in 2022
Headquarters: Helsinki, Finland
Team Size: 611 in the main Finnish entity, more across sister companies
Industries Served: Public sector and defence, energy, health, manufacturing, finance
Core Strengths: Fastest-growing firm on this list, Nordic delivery footprint across five countries
Best For: Public sector data programmes that need scale without a global integrator’s price tag
13. Etteplan
Everyone else on this list stops at the software. Etteplan does not. It designs the electronics and the mechanics too, which means it can own a whole physical product rather than just the code running on it.
The software and embedded arm employs 336 people in Finland and is one of the larger service areas inside a 4,000-person engineering services group listed in Helsinki. It was assembled largely from two Finnish embedded specialists acquired in 2016. Certification runs to ISO 9001, 14001, 27001 and 13485.
One caution worth raising early. The unit ran change negotiations in early 2026 that ended in terminations and lay-offs.
Core Services:- Embedded software
- Electronics design
- IoT
- Industrial software
- Systems engineering
- Test and lab services
- Embedded C and C++
- Real-time operating systems
- Hardware design
- IoT platforms
- Industrial AI
Founded: 1983

Industries Served: Industrial machinery, automotive, medtech, defense, energy, forestry, marine, mining
Certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 13485
Best For: Products where the software is inseparable from the hardware it runs on
14. Knowit Finland
Knowit sells build, design and strategy as three linked practices under one contract. That is the whole point of it, and it is useful if you would rather not manage three vendors against each other.
This one arrived through a merger rather than a founding. The Swedish parent started in 1990, and the Finnish business was largely assembled when two acquired consultancies were integrated on 1 October 2021. One of them brought the secure development and defence-adjacent heritage that still defines it here.
Three hundred and ten people in Finland across Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Oulu, with roughly 3,700 in the Nordic group. Finnish revenue did decline in 2025 and published case detail is thin, so push hard for references you can actually call.
Core Services:- Agile custom development
- Cloud services
- Data and AI
- Quality assurance
- Management consulting
- Digital design
- Cloud-native architecture
- Data platforms
- Secure development
- Test automation
Founded: 1990 in Sweden, Finnish operation consolidated in 2021
Headquarters: Helsinki, Finland
Team Size: 310 in Finland, around 3,700 Nordic group
Industries Served: Public sector, defence and security, telecom, energy, industry, retail
Certifications: ISO 9001:2015, ISO/IEC 27001
Best For: Programmes that need strategy, design and engineering bought as one thing
15. Innofactor
One vendor stack, top to bottom. Innofactor does Microsoft and nothing else. Public administration is their core franchise, with healthcare, manufacturing and energy behind it. It also owns its own case and document management product, sold into Finnish and Swedish administration. This is rare for a consultancy of this kind.
Around 571 people, based in Espoo. The company was taken private in April 2025 by an investor consortium. So it no longer files quarterly numbers you can look up. Ask for financials directly.

16. Codemate
Codemate is Finland’s deepest Flutter shop. Cross-platform mobile, shipped fast, with its own productized mobile arm behind it and a Google Cloud partnership on the infrastructure side.
Speed is the product here. It also happens to be the healthiest independent on this list financially. They’re growing and comfortably profitable through 2025, which is not something you can say about several larger names above it.
Seventy-three people, with a delivery office in Bangkok that is unusual for a firm this size. Worth checking one thing. The registry lists the domicile as Oulu while the company presents Helsinki as its base. So confirm which office your team would actually sit in.

17. Mearra
Mearra is the Drupal house. It is the only Drupal Certified Partner in Finland for the 2026 to 2027 term. It contributes upstream to Drupal core and its AI initiative rather than just implementing what others build.
This one bought itself back. Management and the founders repurchased the company from its private equity owner in early 2025. Then renamed itself Mearra in the second quarter of 2026.
Around 100 people and 60 active clients, with offices across the Nordics and Central Europe. Strongest on large public-facing platforms for cities, healthcare and media, where accessibility is a legal obligation rather than a preference.

18. Sofokus
Twenty-eight people, the smallest firm on this list by team size. And the one with the deepest public transport ticketing knowledge in Finland. That specialism is genuinely rare and it is why they are here at all.
Beyond ticketing, the work covers B2B commerce, booking platforms and digital services for banking, culture and the public sector. BigCommerce and Shopify Plus partner on the commerce side.
The catch is obvious and worth saying plainly. At 28 people, capacity is the constraint. Check availability before you get attached to the idea.

19. Houston Inc
Houston Inc sells one thing, which is a long-running embedded team that behaves like your own department rather than a supplier. Their team is of forty-nine people, React and Node on Google Cloud, with observability built in from the start. Sector work spans telecom, media, energy, maritime and building services.
Run the financial check first, though. Turnover fell in 2025 and the equity ratio went negative. Vendors like this small need a conversation you should have earlier rather than later.
Core Services:- Digital service design and development

20. Columbia Road
Columbia Road sells revenue rather than software. Digital commerce, marketing automation and the data work underneath, delivered by mixed teams of developers, martech specialists and data consultants.
Futurice did not acquire this one. It created it, spinning Columbia Road out in 2016 as a separate consultancy pointed at a single question. That is why your digital channels are not selling.
Around 150 people across six offices in the Nordics, Germany and the UK, and deliberately technology-agnostic. If your brief is a revenue number rather than a feature list, this is the shape of vendor you want.
Core Services:- Digital commerce strategy and build

How Much Does Software Development Cost in Finland?
Money is where most buyer conversations go wrong. And usually because people compare the wrong numbers. So let us walk it up one layer at a time. By the end of this section, you should be able to look at a quote and know roughly what it is inside.
Software Developer Salary in Finland
Start with the salary. Everything else is built on top of it.
The Tietoala labour market survey puts the average monthly salary in Finnish IT at 5,188 euros, with a median of 5,026. In Helsinki the median rises to 5,360, about 13% above the rest of the country.
But recent graduates’ salaries are far lower. It’s at a median of 3,141. That tells you what a junior-heavy team is really worth compared with the senior team you thought you were buying.
The Employer Costs That Never Make the Budget
Here is where most first-time buyers get caught. Finland’s own government guidance for employers says indirect costs are 20 to 25% of gross salary. And advises budgeting 40 to 50% on top of gross salary for the full cost of an employee.
So, a 5,200-euro developer will actually cost you closer to 7,500 a month.
Finnish Software Development Hourly Rates
Finnish industry portal Ite wiki benchmarks senior developers at 80 to 160 euros an hour and architects at 90 to 200. People see those numbers and assume somebody is being greedy.
They are not. Cross-check against official data and the rates hold up. Statistics Finland’s structural business statistics show the software and consultancy sector turned over roughly 204,000 euros per person-year in 2024. Spread across the hours a consultant can realistically bill, that lands almost exactly where Ite wiki puts it.
Finland vs Nearshore and Offshore Rates
Accelerance, an outsourcing brokerage with an obvious commercial interest in the answer, benchmarks senior engineers in Central and Eastern Europe at 64 to 76 dollars an hour and senior South Asian engineers at 31 to 41. Discount the source as heavily as you like. The gap is still not small.
That is the arithmetic behind every offshore software development conversation happening in Finnish boardrooms right now. It is also why the top entry on this list is not a Finnish company.
The honest framing is this. You are not comparing like with like on price alone. You are trading proximity, time zone overlap and shared legal ground against headcount you can actually afford.
Fixed Price vs Time and Materials vs Dedicated Team
Three models, three very different risk profiles, and buyers pick the wrong one constantly.
Fixed price moves the risk onto the vendor. So the vendor prices that risk in, then defends the scope line hard. It works when you know what you want and will not change your mind.
Time and materials moves risk onto you and works when discovery is part of the job. A dedicated team is neither. You are buying capacity by the month and directing it yourself, which is the IT staff augmentation model.
If you cannot describe the finished thing in a page, do not sign a fixed price contract. You will spend the project arguing about change requests instead of building software.
What will your software project cost in Finland?
Set your scope below for a 2026 budget range, a delivery timeline, and what the same scope costs onshore in Finland, nearshore in the Baltics, or offshore. It is a planning estimate, not a quote.
How Long Does a Software Development Project Take?
After the cost, everyone wants to know how long this will take. The honest answer depends on what you are building. But there are some ways to judge whether the proposed timeline is realistic.
Software Project Budget Overrun Statistics
McKinsey, working with the University of Oxford, studied more than 5,400 large IT projects.
On average they ran 45% over budget and delivered 56% less value than predicted. 17 percent went so badly they threatened the existence of the company running them.
That study is from 2012 and its age is worth stating plainly. The more recent academic work points the same way.
Oxford’s Bent Flyvbjerg examined 1,471 IT projects and found an average cost overrun of 27%, with one in six blowing past budget by 200% and schedule by nearly 70%.
How to Cut Project Risk by Scoping Small
Given the numbers above, the single most effective thing a buyer can do is refuse to sign a twelve-month contract for a thing nobody has built yet.
Break it. Buy a discovery phase and a first shippable slice. Set a decision point where you can walk away, change vendor, or commit to the rest with real information instead of a proposal document. Any vendor worth hiring will agree to this, because it de-risks their side too.
The ones who insist on the full scope up front are usually the ones whose commercial model depends on it.
The July Problem, Finnish Holidays and Your Timeline
Now this matters more than you think. And it is the thing foreign buyers discover in week three of a project rather than during procurement.
Finnish annual holiday law is unusually structured. Under the Annual Holidays Act, 24 weekdays of holiday must be granted within the summer season (from 2 May to 30 September). And it must be given as an uninterrupted period.
Employees accrue two and a half weekdays of holiday a month once they pass a year of service. So roughly five weeks a year in total.
So, plan around it. Do not discover it later.
How to Choose a Software Development Company in Finland
Twenty websites, twenty versions of the same promise. Senior talent. Scalable architecture. End-to-end delivery.
So, what’s the way out?
The way out is not a bigger spreadsheet. It is a handful of checks that are cheap to run and hard for a vendor to fake. Here are the ones that have actually told me something.
Send Three Firms the Same One-Page Brief
Not a request for proposal. Just the actual problem, in a page. Send it to three vendors on the same day.
Then watch what comes back. One sends a price. Another sends a deck. The third sends back three questions you had not thought of. That is your shortlist.
It sounds crude and it outperforms any weighted scoring matrix. Because most firms on this list can build what you described. Very few will tell you that what you described is the wrong thing to build.
Check the Vendor’s Financials First
Finnish company financials are public and take about ten minutes to check. Do it before the second meeting.
You are looking for three things.
First, the revenue direction over the last two years. Then the equity ratio and finally whether the firm has run change negotiations recently.
Several companies on this list would fail at least one of those checks, and I have flagged them where they do.
A struggling vendor is not automatically a bad vendor. But a small firm with negative equity signals risks.
Ask Who Is on Your Team in Month Four
Month one is always the A-team. The people in the room during the pitch are the people the vendor most wants you to meet. But quite often they are the people who will move to another project once you sign.
Ask for named individuals with a commitment in writing. Then find out what happens if one of them leaves. Also ask what the handover looks like.
Onshore vs Nearshore vs Offshore Delivery
The right answer depends on which constraint is actually biting.
Pick onshore when the work needs constant access to your own people. Also, if the regulatory exposure is high. Or when the domain knowledge is uniquely Finnish.
Nearshore makes sense when you want most of the cost relief without losing time zone overlap.
Go offshore when capacity and budget are the binding constraints. Even if you have the internal discipline to run a distributed team properly.
Reference Call Questions That Get Honest Answers
Ask for two references you can actually phone. Then avoid the questions that produce polite noise.
Do not ask whether they were happy.
Ask what went wrong and how it got fixed. Who left the team mid-project and what the vendor did then.
Also ask whether the final invoice matched the first estimate, and if not, why not.
Anyone who has run a real project will certainly have an answer. A reference who says everything went perfectly has either not run a real project or is not going to be useful to you.
Contracts, Code Ownership and Compliance in Finland
This is the section people skip. Though it is the one that costs real money later.
You are buying software in an EU country with its own copyright rules. It’s under a growing stack of regulation that cover security, data and AI.
Though most of it is manageable, none of it is automatic.
If you take nothing else from this guide, take at least the first two points below. They decide whether you actually own the thing you paid for.

Who Owns the Code Under Finnish Law
Most buyers assume that paying for software means owning it. In Finland that assumption is wrong. Many companies have suffered from this.
Section 40b of the Finnish Copyright Act transfers copyright in a computer program to the employer when the program is created in the course of employment duties.
That provision moves rights from the vendor’s own staff to the vendor. It does nothing whatsoever to move rights from the vendor to you.
Finland has no equivalent of the American work-for-hire rule. So, nothing is assigned by implication. Without a written assignment clause you usually end up with a license rather than ownership.
So get it in writing. Before the first invoice, not after the relationship sours.
Exit Clauses and Handover Terms
Write the separation terms while everyone still likes each other.
At minimum, specify that source code stays in a repository you own from day one.
Specify what documentation must exist and what state it must be in.
Specify a transition assistance period with a rate attached. So that the vendor has a commercial reason to help rather than a reason to stall.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How Do I Check That a Finnish Software Company Is Legitimate?
Check its business ID in the Finnish Business Information System. You can confirm that the company exists, check its registration details, VAT status, and public financial statements.
2. Who Owns the Code If the Project Stops Halfway?
Your contract decides. Make sure ownership transfers progressively as you pay. So you keep the completed work if the project ends early.
3. What VAT Applies When a Finnish Vendor Invoices My Company Abroad?
EU businesses usually use the reverse-charge mechanism. That means the Finnish vendor invoices without Finnish VAT. Rules differ outside the EU. So check the Finnish Tax Administration guidance or ask your accountant.
4. Can a Finnish Team Support My Time Zone Outside Europe?
Yes, if you agree on working overlap hours. Europe is straightforward, while North American and Asian teams may need a more structured schedule.
5. Is There Public Funding for Software Projects in Finland?
Business Finland offers R&D funding to companies operating in Finland. It generally applies to Finnish entities, not foreign companies simply hiring a Finnish vendor.
6. Do I Need to Speak Finnish?
No. English is widely used in Finland’s software industry. Finnish matters mainly if your product targets Finnish-speaking users.
7. What Happens If My Vendor Gets Acquired Mid-Project?
Your contract should protect the project and key personnel. Keep your code in a repository you own so you can move to another vendor if needed.
8. Should the Same Firm Build and Maintain the Software?
Usually, yes, at least initially. The original team knows the code best, but you can reassess once the software is stable.
9. How Much Should a Discovery Phase Cost?
There is no standard price. Keep the cost reasonable and make sure you know exactly what deliverables you will receive and own at the end.
Final Words
Choosing between the top software development companies in Finland on this list is not about finding the one with the lowest hourly rate. What decides the outcome is narrower than that. The most important concerns are –
- Does the team know your domain?
- Who is actually on it in month four?
- How do they handle security and code ownership?
- What happens after launch?
So do the groundwork. Build a shortlist of three. Send them the same one-page brief. Interview the engineers who would do the work, not the salesperson who turns up first. Call the references and ask what went wrong, not whether they were happy.
Still can’t decide?
You may talk to our experts. If capacity and budget are your real constraints rather than proximity, this conversation will surely help you decide.
