Overview
A beauty brand founded in 2023 set out to do more than sell products in Bangladesh: expert guidance, transparent quality and a community around it. That promise only works if the storefront can answer one question well — what does this particular person need. Three groups depend on it:
- shoppers who want a recommendation, not a catalogue,
- beauty advisors who need to log concerns and follow up after a sale, and
- the operations team handling combos, stock and deliveries behind all of it.
The brand’s original platform could not do any of that. It could take an order, and little else, which left the personalised experience at the centre of the brand’s mission unbuilt.
Brain Station 23 re-architected Shopify into the hub of a wider system, integrating nine custom applications for personalisation, rewards, inventory and fulfilment.
The result moved the store from transactional to advisory: a profiler that asks about skin concerns and recommends accordingly, with automation behind the counter so the team can keep the promise at volume.
Business Challenges
Personalisation is usually described as a front-end feature. It is not. It needs customer data captured properly, stock you can trust, and operations that keep up once the recommendations start converting.
Six pressures shaped the build.
- The platform could not personalise. It had no way to capture beauty profiles or map complex customer inputs to tailored product suggestions.
- Operations were manual. Creating product combos and managing inventory by hand was slow and error-prone, and it got worse as the range grew.
- Fulfilment was disconnected. Separate processes made it impossible to synchronise inventory and delivery updates with logistics partners in real time.
- Advisors had no system. Beauty advisors could not log customer concerns or track after-sales interactions centrally, which caps how well any relationship is maintained.
- Email-only login excluded people. A significant part of the customer base is mobile-first and expects to sign in with a phone number.
- Reporting was inconsistent. Without unified data, customer loyalty and lifetime value could not be tracked accurately enough to act on.
Personalisation was the visible gap. Underneath it sat stock accuracy, fulfilment and identity — the things that decide whether a recommendation can actually be delivered.

What We Built
The design keeps Shopify as the commerce core and puts custom applications around it, so the brand gets the logic it needs without fighting the platform it sells on.
An intelligent beauty profiler
A question-based interface with conditional logic captures skin concerns and returns personalised product recommendations immediately, which is the feature the brand’s positioning depends on.
A unified commerce engine
Shopify was re-architected as the central hub, with nine distinct custom applications integrated around it to carry the logic for rewards, inventory and operations.
Automated fulfilment
Real-time integration with the Pathao 3PL API generates shipping labels and pushes status updates automatically, replacing manual coordination with the courier.
A dynamic rewards programme
Points accrue from purchases and reviews with precise expiration logic, giving the brand a retention mechanism rather than a discount habit.
An intelligent operations hub
A custom inventory management system tracks individual items by unique barcode, which is where the 100% order accuracy comes from.
Phone-first accounts
A custom phone-number login was built despite platform constraints, removing the email-only barrier that was costing sign-ups in a mobile-first market.
The Results
The changes show up on both sides of the business: what customers do on the storefront, and how much manual work sits behind each order.
Commercial outcomes
Conversion rose 45%, driven by intelligent personalisation and a smoother, more user-centred checkout. The rewards programme gives repeat purchase a mechanism, and phone-first sign-in measurably increased user adoption among customers the old email-only flow turned away.
Operational outcomes
Manual overhead in inventory management and combo creation fell by around 30%, while automating delivery syncing and reward management saved roughly 60% of admin time. Barcode-level tracking eliminated inventory discrepancies, and the modular architecture is built to hold up during high-traffic sales events with synchronisation between storefront and logistics kept current.
The sequencing is what makes this work. A profiler that recommends a product the warehouse cannot confirm it holds is worse than no profiler at all, so the inventory and fulfilment work had to land alongside the personalisation, not after it.
The phone-number login is the least glamorous item on the list and possibly the most valuable: in a mobile-first market, the sign-in method decides how many people ever see the personalised experience.
Running a Shopify store that cannot personalise?
You might be building product bundles by hand, reconciling stock after the fact, or losing mobile customers at an email-only sign-in. In every case, the first step is the same.
