Overview
Mega Warehouse is a leading South African mega shop with a huge multi-vendor product range — and, until this project, no customer-facing e-commerce website. Three groups needed that to change:
- shoppers, who wanted to browse and buy the range online, on any device,
- vendors, whose products needed to be found in a very large catalogue, and
- the business, missing out on digital sales in a competitive market.
A big catalogue is only an advantage online if people can find things in it. Without strong search and filtering, more products just means more places to get lost.
Brain Station 23 built a fully customised multi-vendor store on nopCommerce, with advanced categorisation and filtering, high-resolution imagery, a smooth sign-up and checkout (including guest checkout), local payment methods, a store locator and email subscriptions.
The result lifted conversions by 35% and user engagement by 30%, and gave Mega Warehouse the digital presence it lacked.
Business Challenges
Launching online with a very large catalogue means solving discovery first.
Five pressures shaped the store.
- No online store. Without a customer-facing e-commerce site, digital sales opportunities were being missed.
- A large multi-vendor catalogue. The platform had to handle a big product range from many vendors.
- Hard to find products. Advanced search and filtering were needed for user-friendly discovery.
- Every device. A modern, responsive design was required for a good experience on any screen.
- A competitive market. The store had to lift engagement and conversion to compete in South African e-commerce.
The store had to make a huge range feel easy to shop.

Advanced categories and dynamic filters
Detailed product categorisation and dynamic filters make it easy to navigate an extensive range.
High-resolution product imagery
Sharp product images improve visual appeal and build shopper trust.
Seamless sign-up, login and checkout
A smooth account and checkout flow, including guest checkout, removes friction at the point of purchase.
Local, secure payments
A range of secure payment methods tailored to the South African market makes it easy to pay.
Store locator and email subscriptions
A store locator connects online shoppers to physical stores, and email subscriptions support engagement and loyalty.
The Results
The outcomes are measured in engagement and sales.
Higher engagement and conversion
An intuitive, responsive UX increased user engagement by 30%, and better navigation and UI lifted the conversion rate by 35%.
A stronger brand online
A personalised shopping experience encourages loyalty and repeat business, and the site has strengthened Mega Warehouse’s standing among South African e-commerce sites.
The transferable lesson is that in a large catalogue, filters are a sales tool. Every product someone can find quickly is a product they can buy.
Guest checkout and local payment methods do the rest: they remove the two most common reasons a first-time visitor leaves without buying.
