About the Client

Bolo is a cross-border shopping store for the Gulf. It is owned and operated by Encoded General Trading LLC in Abu Dhabi, and runs storefronts in the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar. Bolo sits between:

When a customer orders, Bolo sources the product abroad and consolidates it at an international hub. It then ships the product to the UAE, clears customs, and delivers it to the door.

What sets Bolo apart is that it acts as the merchant of record. The shopper buys from a local company, and Bolo carries the import process, the customs clearance and the paperwork, so there are no surprise fees.

02

The Challenge

Cross-border retail looks simple from the shopper’s side. Behind it, every order passes through a foreign seller, a hub, a logistics center and a customs desk before it reaches a doorstep. Bolo’s promise is that the shopper never sees any of that. But the store it ran on, then trading as Binge, could not keep that promise at scale.

Business Challenges

Technical Challenges

The people who felt it most were shoppers waiting on a slow site and Bolo’s operations team, who had to hold a cross-border supply chain together with tools that couldn’t keep up.

03

Why They Came to Us

Bolo needed more than a new look. It needed a team that could rebuild the storefront and the operations system behind it at the same time, and keep both running across three countries.

Offshore delivery raised the usual questions. Could the team run a Django and Nuxt.js stack at production scale? Would communication hold up between Abu Dhabi and Dhaka? Who would own the code and the cloud account at the end?

What reassured them was a delivery model built for this: in-house engineers rather than a freelancer bench, a two-hour time difference that puts almost the whole working day in overlap, and client-owned repositories and infrastructure on Azure.

04

What We Built

We rebuilt the store as Bolo and put the whole cross-border operation behind it on one platform. Shoppers see three local storefronts. Bolo’s team runs everything from a single operations dashboard.

I

Storefront Redesign

A new design for all three country sites, built in Nuxt.js. Web only, and fully responsive on mobile. Shoppers browse and buy the way they would from any local store.

II

Customer Management

Customer accounts and order history sit in one place, so the team can see a shopper's full record when they get in touch.

III

Coupon Management

The team creates and runs promotions and discount codes from the dashboard.

IV

Order Management

Every order is created, tracked and updated in the platform, from checkout to delivery.

V

Warehouse Management

Warehouse work runs in the same system as the orders it serves.

VI

Delivery Tracking

Each order is tracked from consolidation through shipping, customs and last-mile delivery, so the team and the customer both know where it is.

VII

Notifications

Customers get updates as their order moves, without the support team sending them by hand.

VIII

Operations Dashboard

The admin side of the platform. Orders, stock, deliveries, customers and coupons all run from one screen.

05

The Results

We want to be precise here. Bolo reports that its sales went up after the relaunch. That is Bolo’s outcome, earned by its team, its sourcing and its service. What we can speak to is the platform that operation now runs on.

Business Outcomes

Bolo reports increased sales since the new platform went live, and a smoother day-to-day operation. The store now trades under one brand across the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar, with a storefront that matches the promise of buying from a local company.

Technical Outcomes

We replaced a site that couldn't handle traffic with a Django and Nuxt.js platform on Azure, behind Cloudflare. Redis handles caching and RabbitMQ moves background work off the main request path, so the storefront stays responsive when demand rises. Orders, warehouse, delivery tracking, notifications, customers and coupons now run in one system.

Our old site slowed down exactly when customers wanted to buy. Now the store keeps up, and our team runs orders, stock and deliveries from one place instead of chasing them.

Ready to Scale Your Cross-Border Store?

You might be a retailer whose site slows down the moment a sale takes off. You might be a cross-border business like Bolo, holding orders, stock and deliveries together across several markets. Or you might be launching into the GCC for the first time. In every case, the first step is the same.

Book a 30-minute call with Brain Station 23. Bring your current store and operations setup, and we will come back with a proposed architecture, a delivery plan and a scoped estimate for your build.
